OpenApps Sign

Free alternative to DocuSign

Get documents signed, free.

Sign is a free alternative to DocuSign with no limit on documents. Upload a PDF or paste a contract, add who signs, and send each person a private link. They sign in the browser with no account, and everyone gets the signed PDF with an audit trail.

  • No limit on documents or signers
  • No account for you or your signers
  • Signed PDF with a completion certificate

How it works

  1. Add your document

Upload a PDF, or write or paste the text and Sign turns it into a clean PDF with a signature block.

  2. Add who signs

Add each signer, then place signature, initials, date, name, text and checkbox fields where they belong.

  3. Send and collect

Send each signer their private link by email or any chat. You see when they open it and sign, and everyone gets the signed PDF.

Free, with no envelope limit

Paid e-signature tools charge every month and cap how many documents you send. Sign is free because it costs almost nothing to run, and OpenApps pays for the storage.

Checked October 2026 on DocuSign's plans page, Dropbox Sign's free plan page and Dropbox Sign's pricing. Prices are in US dollars and change often. DocuSign Personal also sets a signing order and lets a signer decline. Sign does neither yet: everyone signs at the same time, and a signer who will not sign tells you, so you can void it.

A record that holds up

Electronic signatures are valid under the US ESIGN Act and UETA, and as simple electronic signatures under eIDAS in the EU. Some documents, such as wills, need more. This is not legal advice.

For AI assistants

Your assistant can send it for you.

Ask your assistant to draft an agreement and send it. With one call it creates the document from text, adds the signers, and gets back a private signing link for each of them and an admin link for you.

No key, no account. Full reference: llms.txt and openapi.json. To send an existing PDF, use the web app.

Questions

Is there a free alternative to DocuSign?
Yes. Sign is free with no limit on documents or signers. Upload a PDF or paste a contract, add who signs, and send each person a private link. DocuSign's Personal plan costs $11 a month billed yearly and includes 5 envelopes a month (checked October 2026).
Is Sign really free?
Yes. There is no paid plan and no limit on documents or signers. Storing your documents costs very little, and OpenApps pays for it.
Are electronic signatures from Sign legally binding?
In the US (ESIGN Act and UETA), the EU (eIDAS, simple electronic signatures) and most other countries, an electronic signature is valid when people intend to sign and a record is kept. Sign records who signed, when, with which browser, and a SHA-256 fingerprint of the exact document. Some documents, such as wills or some real estate filings, need more than an electronic signature, so check the rules for yours.
Do signers need an account?
No. Each signer gets a private link and signs in the browser, on a phone or a computer.
How do signers get their link?
After you send, Sign shows each signer's private link. Copy it into any message, use Share on a phone, or use Email to open a ready-made email in your own mail app. Sign does not send email itself.
Can I sign a document myself?
Yes. Add yourself as a signer and send. Then open the menu next to your name and choose to sign on this device. You get the same signed PDF and certificate as anyone else.
Can I reuse a document I send often?
Yes. Open it and choose Make a copy to send again from its menu. The copy is a new draft with the same pages, signers and fields, so you change the names and send it.
Can I change a document after sending it?
No. Once sent, its pages, signers and fields are locked, so everyone signs the same thing. Void it, make a copy, fix the copy and send that.
Can I set a signing order?
Not yet. Everyone you add can sign at the same time, in any order.
Who can see my document?
Only you (and anyone you give the admin link) and the signers you add, through their own private links. Links are long and random, so they cannot be guessed.
Can my AI assistant send a document for signature?
Yes. Sign has a public API with no key. An assistant can create a document from the text of a contract, add signers and get back one signing link per signer. See llms.txt or openapi.json.
